SUB-COMMITTEE'S GOAL:

Our goal is to empower residents and businesses with tools to reduce panhandling

The committee investigates and implements actions that will help residents and businesses to reduce panhandling. The primary focus is on education that will divert giving from panhandlers to charities that fight homelessness and poverty. The subcommittee meets together monthly to discuss strategies and progress. We have a good partnership with the City of Dallas and try to coordinate with their anti-panhandling efforts and vice-versa.

WEST END COMMONS

image16

SUB-COMMITTEE'S GOAL:

Our goal is to work with the Friends of the West End Commons in order to construct the West End's first public space.

The West End Commons Project aims to fight crime and quality of life issues adjacent to the DART West End rail station by creating an aesthetically-pleasing, active public space. A time-tested way to fight crime is to encourage people to care about public spaces by making physical improvements and programming them. Once people take ownership of a space, they keep an eye on it and work more closely with the police, which makes criminals uncomfortable and drives them away. Volunteers will be helping with fundraising, promotions, and events.

Want to get involved?

Email crispinrl@yahoo.com for more information, or visit the West End Commons Facebook page, or website: www.thewestendcommons.org
